"If You're Not Moved, You Need a Heart Transplant"

I can’t believe I am quoting Oliver North here, but he captured my sentiments on this story:

Right now, I have no business posting this because: 1) I know next to nothing about ISIS in Syria and Mosul, Iraq; 2) I am not feeling well physically (just a bad cold); and I am woefully behind in my Accounting homework and I have my first test tomorrow.

I am driven by emotion. As an atheist-leaning agnostic who has done a couple 12-Step programs, nothing has brought me closer to the presence of God than witnessing someone willing to risk their life for something they believe in.

As a father of 2 girls, I can’t think of anything more important to model for them: service to a higher cause. You may wonder why I am pointing to a story about a man who risks his own daughter’s life to provide medical assistance to others in a war zone and does so while carrying a weapon of war (and he is not opposed to using it). I didn’t say it was simple. And I don’t have time to dissect it here.

Here is the CBN article and video of Oliver North describing the life the hero Dave Eubank. I have no idea what Dave Eubank thinks about Trump’s betrayal of the Kurds, but this is the sort of man that Trump betrayed before the entire world.

The cynicism of the Trump-supporting Christian Conservatives has been staggering. (I have to believe it is “cynicism”, because it is hard to believe anyone could  be so incredibly stupid to support, in the name of Christianity, this despicable, evil, pervert, who disdains all the classic Christian values that even we non-believers are proud to uphold). I have no desire to win the hearts and minds of the Trump supporting hold-outs. They betrayed their own God to get a couple supreme court appointments. If there is a God, they will have to answer for that.

However, that said: I really do believe in Love, Honor, and Sacrifice. Millions of Americans do. I encourage you to listen to Oliver North gushing about Dave Eubank and note the values that are called out and applauded.

I think we (the Left) now own these core moral values. We have some work to do in walking the talk. We will be called to show Courage and Sacrifice. We just need to recognize the moments when they appear and show up when called.
