Dear Donald Trump,
‘Sacrifice’ has several definitions, but all of them involved giving up something; none of them include acquiring, or hoarding, or building material goods for oneself. Where did you possibly come up with that egotistical idea? But comparing your ‘sacrifices’ to that of the Kahn family has crossed the line from deplorable self-obsession, to utter and total disregard for those who have truly ‘sacrificed’.
Building a golf course with your name on it is NOT a sacrifice for your country [especially in Scotland or Dubai]. Building a fleet of gold-plated aircraft is NOT a sacrifice for your country. Building HUGE buildings [with other people’s money] putting your name on them before moving into their obscenely ostentatious penthouses with gold-plated [or solid gold] everything is NOT a sacrifice for your country.
Captain Humayun Khan sacrificed himself in a selfless act of bravery, giving up his very life in service to his country as he protected others on that fateful 8th day of June, 2004, using his own body to save the lives of his fellow American Soldiers. That is SACRIFICE!
All of the gold you have ‘sacrificed’ for that adorns your buildings, your airplanes, your cars, your rings, your thrones, and your bathroom toilet combined doesn’t come close to the value of the sacrifice represented by the simple gold star that now belongs to the Khans, and all too many other Gold Star Families.
All who know me are fully aware of my staunchly anti-war positions. I wish there were no ‘Gold Star Families’ to talk about because I wish there were no dead soldiers to create them! But I am still a human being who grieves out of compassion for every family who has unwillingly found themselves in that agonizing ‘club’; a club that nobody wants to join, but a very special group where EVERY member deserves unapologetic RESPECT and HONOR for the REAL sacrifices that were made to gain membership.
Mr. Trump, I hope you are deeply ashamed of yourself for your disrespectful words and actions, but I pray you are humble enough - and strong enough - to find yourself in Section 60 Site 7986 very soon, down on bended knee, asking for forgiveness and a chance to redeem yourself before the American people. If you do not know how to get to Site 7986, I will gladly lend you a map.
